NEIGHBORS – 52 WEEKS OF PERSONAL GENEALOGY & HISTORY

Neighbors is a concept that has definitely changed over time!  I remember going to visit my grandparents when I was a child and they knew who their neighbors were and could (and did) tell all about their families and everything going on in their lives.  My Great-Grandfather Stout could go to the local grocery store and tell you who was in the store based on the cars in the parking lot!

Now, I live in a house in a nice neighborhood and I  have spoken to a couple of my neighbors and I wave to them as I am driving down the street but I don’t really know any of them.  I don’t think I have really known any of my neighbors in the last twenty years!

When I was a girl and we lived in Green Forest, I knew several of our neighbors and spent a lot of time with the neighborhood children.  I also spent a lot of time with the neighborhood children when I was little and we lived on Berry Street in Springdale but since then I don’t even remember who my neighbors were at the places we have lived.

Today, I don’t really feel the need to get to know my neighbors well.  I think the people we work with and the people who belong to the same organizations and clubs have replaced our neighbors in our lives.

Week #25 – Neighbors

Week 25. Neighbors. Who were your childhood neighbors? Have you kept in touch with any of them? Do you feel the concept of “neighbors” has changed since then?

This challenge runs from Saturday, June 18, 2011 through Friday, June 24, 2011.
