The Book of Me, Written by You, Prompt 43: Emigration / Migration / Immigration

book-of-me

I have never lived overseas, in fact, I have never even visited anywhere overseas.  I wouldn’t want to live overseas but I might like to visit other countries.  I have read some books that featured Greece, Italy, and Rome as well as England as locations and I have often thought that I might like to visit the places that served as the backdrop for the stories.  One of my favorite authors, Nora Roberts, has used Ireland frequently as the location of her books and though I often feel like I have visited there when I am reading the book I think it would be wonderful to actually visit!

My ancestors for at least 4 generations on all my direct lines have lived within the United States but my ancestors emigrated from at least England, possibly Ireland and Germany.

This week’s prompt is – Emigration / Migration / Immigration
Have you ever lived overseas from your place of birth?
Would you want to?
Could you?
Did your ancestors or even a more recent generation?
Do you feel akin to another Country from that in which you were born?
If so have you found any ancestral links in your research that perhaps explains those feelings?
As always share (or not) examples, photographs and perhaps events or rationale

The Book of Me, Written by You is a real opportunity to explore your memories, thoughts, information from your life, things that you can remember, and perhaps the passing on of oral history. This is a chance to explore yourself and create a legacy for future generations. This is truly a road of self discovery and exploration. The prompts will be delivered each week from 31st August 2013 through until the end of December 2014 via Thomas at Geneabloggers and via the Anglers Rest blog. There is a Facebook group set up read for discussion. You can read all about the project and find out what it is all about and sign up to the Facebook page HERE
