I am currently revising my website. I am giving it a Do-Over as I am currently doing with my genealogy!
For the website do-over, I am clearing out the clutter on my website. I am removing all of my old posts on the site. I have completed this process tonight. I am now working on getting the posts that I wish to continue to share updated, cleaned up, and reformatted for the new website. You will continue to see these old posts reappear over the next few days and weeks.
For my genealogy do-over, I have started a new file in a new genealogy software and I am getting all information sourced as I put it into the software. I am currently using Family Historian. It has a feature that allows me to automatically source everything that I edit with the source currently in the auto-citation box. This will allow me to accurately source everything without having to remember to source each thing that I edit. Even if it is just things that I “know”, then I am sourcing that information with a personal knowledge source. When it is completed, I will have a family history that I can show to people and actually know where I got each piece of information!
Actually, I am kind of in the process of a sort of do-over on a lot of things in my life at the moment. I am learning to focus on the little everyday moments in life and appreciate them instead of only focusing on the “Important Events” that are to come later. Someone said that life is really made of the accumulation of the little moments. I am trying to slow down and appreciate them and not always stressing on the Big Event that is next on the horizon.
I am actually becoming an organized person. I have a new planner and I am putting everything in this planner and getting things organized for perhaps the first time in my life. Even as I am getting organized and don’t yet have “Everything” in my planner, I am already starting to feel less stressed as I get organized because at least now I have a place to put everything.
As some of you know, I have struggled for years to become organized. I have tried for years to find a planning system that is going to work for me and I will find one that works for a few days but then I will be looking for something else and starting over again. This time, I think I will be able to stick with my system because this time, I have simplified my method! The method is simply that I will write everything I need to do in my planner where I will see it when I need to see it. I am using full-size pages (8 ½” by 11″) and I found a lightweight binder at office depot that is soft and leather-like and looks good that has 3 rings.
The full-sized pages are important to me because I tend to write a lot and also I often need to print things out and be able to put them in my planner. With my current system, I can easily do this with a 3-hole punch. No special papers or special paper punches need be carried with me for me to fully function with my planner.
Also, this time I am using more of the Franklin Covey method in that I am putting my todo lists on the daily pages but I am not trying to prioritize my todo list because that doesn’t work for me. Pretty much everything is a high-priority.
Also, so I don’t get depressed if I have to move things because of changes in my world, I am using colored highlighters to mark off everything whether it is a finished item or an item moved to the next day (or week or month!). If an item is moved to the next day, I am simply putting an arrow to indicate it was moved. If it was moved to a later date, then I am writing the date it was placed so that I can find it if I need to from that day’s planner page. The feeling of having everything marked off at the end of the day is very satisfying and keeping me on track with my planning!
I am also on a decluttering kick at the moment. Maybe it is just the spring cleaning but that is affecting pretty much everything right now. I am cleaning out closets and sorting through things and getting things setup in my home so that “everything has a place”.
This year, I am going to become an organized person and it is not just going to become a New Year’s resolution for another year!
