The Book of Me, Written By You – Prompt 10: Unexplained Memories

I do have a few memories that were pretty weird! When I was a young girl I had several dreams in which I had these weird feelings of movement and I felt dizzy and disoriented and all I could see was this gray area surrounded by two sections of orange. I would feel weird when I would wake up from these dreams but not really afraid. The dreams continued periodically for many months. I didn’t understand the dreams and I couldn’t figure out what was happening to me in the dream. After a while the dreams stopped for a while but then I started having them again. A few months later, I had a weird experience that explained the dream to me and I never had the dream again.

We bought an orange and white blazer. Then, a few weeks later I had to go to the dentist and have a couple of fillings. The doctor had given me some medicine to knock me out while he was doing the fillings. I felt dizzy. I was about halfway home when I realized that this was how I felt in the dreams and the view of the floorboard with the orange surfaces surrounding the floorboard was the view from my dream.

I haven’t had these dreams since this day. We didn’t own the orange and white blazer when I started having the dreams and we weren’t even planning on trading cars at the at time.

I have had a few other weird experiences. I have had several dreams of conversations that I didn’t understand at at the time. Sometimes, I didn’t even understand at the time of the dream the context of the conversation. The conversation would be about things I didn’t even know about at time of the dream. Then, weeks or months later I would realize that I was either observing or participating in the conversation from my previous dream.

I haven’t had one of these dreams in many years. However, the dreams have left me with a belief that psychic visions other psychic phenomena can be true. However, I also believe that many of the so-called psychics on tv and in the news are fakes.

I don’t have explanations for my own experiences but How I dont have explanations for many of the things in the world!

The Book of Me, Written By You – Prompt 7: Grandparents

I was lucky enough to know all four of my grandparents for all of my childhood.  None of my grandparents died until I was senior in high school so I knew them for many years.  I even knew several of my great-grandparents.  I spent quite a bit of time with all of my grandparents when I was a child unlike many of my peers.  We lived within an hour and a half of them during their lives so we visited often, usually every weekend.

My mother’s parents were Ruth Lawrence and Sherman Treat. they were chicken farmers for Tyson for much of the time I remember. They lived on Don 1 Farm for most of my childhood raising chickens. They had a cow for milk, a few pigs, and various pets. They also always had a large garden to grow their own food. Grandma cooked from scratch and always had something good cooking on the stove when we visited,

My fathers parents were CH and Gwen Stout Thompson. Grandpa Thompson worked for all the years that I can remember at the same manufacturing plant in Rogers. It was called RTW at the time of his retirement although it had a different name for many of the years he worked there. Grandma Thompson was a homemaker for most of her life although she had worked some when she was younger,

The Book of Me, Written by You, Prompt 5: Your Childhood Home

My Childhood Home was not a particular house for me.  We lived in several homes when I was a kid. I think we moved at least once a year until I was in 4th grade and then we lived in the same house from the then until I was a sophomore in High School.  Later we moved back to the Springdale area and we again moved several times while I was in high school.

I never felt that the house we lived in was all of that significant when I was a child.  Home was just wherever we lived at the time.

My favorite room in the house was always the living room.  This is where I spent most of my time.  The TV was in the living room and we ate most of our meals in the living room.  We didn’t have a traditional dinner time tradition like the shows that I watched on TV when I was a child but we did have our tradition.  We would make dinner every night when Mom and Dad got home from work and then we would take our plates into the living room and eat dinner when while we watched our evening TV shows.  We didn’t just watch TV though we talked about our days and the current news and anything else that came to mind.  We all discussed the events of our day and everyone had a chance to talk about their day and anything going on with them.

We didn’t just have those conversations like they show on TV where every kid told about the results of their latest spelling test or when the next test was and the parents would say some patronizing comment about that that was good or bad though.  We actually had discussions about what was going on our opinions were listened to and valued (long before that was fashionable).  We would equally talk about what went on at work with each of my parents and anything that was going on with anyone in the extended families.  Some of our best discussions when I got a little older had do with the events of the world and politics and whatever was in the news.  There were times I remember from my childhood of sitting in the living room as a family discussing our lives and the events of the world late into the night until none of us could hold off sleep anymore.  Our home was the living room of whatever house we were living in at the time.

Thompson-Dad-holding-me-and-Mom-holding-Tammy-outside-Don-1_thumb The most constant houses I remember from my childhood are my grandparents homes and the home of my Great-Grandfather Claude Stout.   Grandma and Grandpa Treat lived on the Don 1 Farm for Tyson Foods until  was a teenager and Grandma and Grandpa Thompson lived at 205/315 Old Wire Road in Springdale (They lived in the same house but the address changed when the 911 system was added to the Springdale area.)  My Great-Grandfather Claude Stout lived a couple of blocks away from my Grandma and Grandpa Thompson on Brogden Street in Springdale.  I remember visiting all of them many times throughout my childhood!

The Book of Me, Written by You, Prompt 4: Favorite Season (s)

My Favorite Season is Fall.  I love this time of year.  The temperatures have dropped and I can stand to be outside.  There is an air of expectation as everyone goes back to school and summer draws to a close.  The “Boys of Fall” are beginning to play their football games.  The holiday season is approaching.  It is a time for family and friends. I love watching the leaves change and the autumn flowers appearing:  the cascades of mums appearing at every doorstep, the Halloween displays with the bales of hay and scarecrows and the ghosts and bats appearing in the neighborhood trees.  I love the readying for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.  The Turkey and Pilgrim decorations, the recipes appearing in every newspaper and website and facebook stream, then the sales and decorations for Chirstmas with the ligts, trees, and Santas!  I love the holiday gatherings with family and friends.  I love the traditions of keeping the traditions of the family alive for the new generation!  Fall denotes the mix of happiness and anticipation of happiness as well as the love of heritage and tradition!

The prompt for week 4 is Favourite Season (s)

Why?

A Happy Memory.
Close your eyes and imagine your favourite season – write down what you see, feel, hear.
