Vernon and William Thompson Updates

avatar

Tonight I worked on updating the information for Vernon Thompson, my great-great grandfather, and his father, William.  I have added census information as well as the WWI Draft Card for Vernon.  I included the 1910, 1920, and 1930 census for Vernon.  The 1900 census for Vernon was already included in my research as Vernon was in the household of William, which I entered earlier.

I am starting a new process of going through my ancestry data, one person at a time and entering all the information that I currently have on each person.  Well, at least, that is what I am attempting to start doing!

I currently have in all the information for William – the 1900 census and for Vern – the 1910, 1920, 1930 censuses and his WWI draft card.

I will be updating the website with all the new information over the weekend!

Another update to the website

avatar

Hello Everyone,

Another update to the website. This time I changed the website theme for a new look! I get bored looking at the same colors all the time, so this will probably be a pretty regular change! (I also move my furniture frequently!)

I have also added a few census records and a few new people to the website. More photos have also been added.

More updates to come in the next few days!

I have over 500 individuals in my family file

avatar

Hello Everyone,

I have been very busy this weekend! I have attached pictures and other exhibits to my genealogy so that I now have 649 exhibits in my genealogy file!! I have added the information from approximately 20 obituaries some census information and have begun entering draft registration information for my ancestors.

There are now over 90 individuals displayed on my website but I have over 500 individuals in my family file. (I exclude information from all living individuals on my website!!)

More to come soon! Hope you enjoy the new information. Please feel free to contact if you want any further information on any of the individuals on the website. I have still just scratched the surface of the information that I have already found on my ancestors. I have many, many obituaries and photos to still add to my family history file. I am happy to share any information that I have with anyone who shares the same family members.

Much more to come in the next few days!

I am getting more and more in the Master Genealogist

April 10, 2008

Hello Everyone,

I am getting more and more in the Master Genealogist. I have added several photos into the system many of which are currently displayed on the website!

I have also combined the photo galleries under a main page. I currently have three photo galleries on the website with three of my major surnames: Thompson, Treat, and Stout. More to come as I get more photos added to my genealogy software!

Finally, I recently added a Recent Modifications page that shows everyone whose information has been edited within the past several days. Most of the modifications today were adding photos to people.

I will be doing more editing this weekend. Hope you enjoy the changes and the changes to come!

I decided to try out The Master Genealogist v7.0!

March 2008 Updates

Well, I gave Family Tree Maker 2008 a good try but I had data reliability issues and found that the import features from the website had still not improved to the point that I wanted to rely on them for adding my genealogy data!! I had to make a change! At least I got a free month of Ancestry.com with the software so I only lost about $10 on the trial – well that and about a month of my genealogy time!

After making the decision to switch, I found that I was reluctant to just go back to using Legacy Family Tree. It is good software but I found the editing seemed to be boring and involving a lot of copy/paste to get the events copied to each person that I wanted included in the event. Then, I finally decided after looking at the available software offerings, that after about 10 years of periodic research it was time I upgraded software.

I decided to try out The Master Genealogist v7.0! What a change! This software works the way that I think about genealogy! I can enter an event one time and then link all the people that participated in the event or were mentioned in the documentation of the fact and have them be listed in the event narration for the main person. Then, the software also creates a “Witness” event for all the witnesses – and I only entered one event and one source citation for the event!! What a change for the better!

I also got second site which allows me to create this website from my data by only specifying how I want the website to look. It automatically creates the webpages from my original data file – I don’t have to do anything extra to get new people added into the website!

I recently switched to Family Tree Maker 2008

January 2008

Hello Everyone!

I am finally back to working on my website and my genealogy. I have been unable to work very much on either lately due to family and personal concerns!

Things seem to be going a little better and I have restarted my genealogy and my website! I have also bitten the bullet and changed my genealogy software! For a long time I have conducted much of my genealogy using my ancestry.com account. I simply don’t have the time to travel to libraries and other research site very often! Also, I often do my genealogy when nothing else is open.

I have been using Legacy Family Tree and I still like many of the features of the software, but the integration with ancestry was simply too tempting! I recently switched to Family Tree Maker 2008.

True there are some concerns with the new version but the integration with ancestry makes up for a lot as far as I am concerned. I also like the new layout of the software. I like having the tree at the top of the screen. I have even been able to export the reports to html and then include them in my website.

The feature from Legacy I probably miss the most is the ability to put the photos in the genealogy reports but I can overcome that by just putting a photo gallery on the website with those photos and it will probably be even clearer there!

I am getting everything moved to the new software and getting the website updated. Actually, the new method I am using with the reports exported and then included in the website should actually mean I will be able to update the website more often.
